Wanna Attract Way Better Clients? Stop Telling, Start Showing

Raise your hand if you find a lot of BORING posts and profiles on LinkedIn.

Raise your hand higher if you think yours might be one of them.

No worries, there's a learning curve!

Have you ever looked up a YouTube video on, say, how to program your garage door opener.....OR how to clean your gutters......OR how to disable the virtual Home button on your Iphone?

Handy, right? I'm so grateful for all the prolific people out there.

The only problem.....is that you usually have to sit through 3-5 minutes of this person TALKING about what they're going to TELL you BEFORE they actually do.

It's super annoying.

We also tend to start our emails this way.....

"I'm writing to tell you that...."

"The reason for this message is..."

We humans are fond of the preamble.

*****Don't feel bad, we all do it.******

In fact, people do it A LOT on their LINKEDIN PROFILE.

They TELL AND TELL AND TELL AND TELL.

And sometimes I'll hold on for a while, waiting for the DEMONSTRATION of all this creamy goodness....

and it never comes...

and then I bail, disappointed and unimpressed.

*****************

So let's stop doing that.

(Not convinced? Consider a comedian who talks about how funny is. Doesn't work.)

Let's start...showing people WHO WE ARE from the beginning. In a POST and a PROFILE

Here's how:

--Choose warm words (the ones you use with clients!) instead of talking about your warmth

--Throw in some sarcasm instead of mentioning humor as one of your tools

--Offer timeless insights immediately instead of bragging about your wisdom.

--Talk about your sock puppet collection instead of saying you're a little weird

--Weave lyrics into your content instead of saying you love The National or Coldplay or Vancouver Sleep Clinic

--Share a small failure instead of announcing your vulnerability

--Use an seriously unpolished selfie (!) rather than simply advertising how you coach about imperfection

***************************

This is not new shit, people.

Ghandi didn't say "tell the change". He said "be the change" .....and that's pretty much all I'm advocating for.

When you EMBODY your rizz (learned that word from my teenager), people begin to FEEL your vibration. Even across the screen. And this is SO MUCH more powerful than talking about it.

Need help? Sign up for my magic here.

I help people talk about what they do....without anyone glazing over.

Meow.
